Important Messages
- Please check this page every Tuesday and
Thursday before coming to the class.
- Tutorials will start in the
week of January 22.
- Students must hand in the
homework at the beginning of the Monday tutorials or upload it on Moodle,
before 11:45am on Monday. No late homework will be accepted.
- Labs will start on January 29.
- Please see the corrected
tutorial room numbers in the course outline.
- All quizzes are closed-book.
No calculators, course notes or crib-sheets are permitted.
- The midterm test will be on
Thursday, February 22, during the lecture time, and will include the topics
covered in the lecture notes of weeks 1-5.
- For the midterm, students are
allowed to bring one 8.5×11 inch formula sheet. Anything can
be written on this sheet, and both sides may be written on. You
may photocopy things and tape/glue them to your crib sheet. However, the
taping/gluing must be on all 4 corners so that the attachment is not a
"flap" that can be lifted up and more written underneath. The
surface area available is only for the one 8.5 by 11 inch piece of paper.
Only non-programmable calculators whose models are approved by the
university, pens, pencils, erasers and straightedges are also
allowed. If you only have a calculator whose model is not on the list
approved by the university for the examinations, you will have to finish
the exam without using a calculator. You are not allowed to share
a calculator with other students.
- A sample midterm
test will be distributed in the class on Thursday, February 15. A Zoom link has been provided on Moodle for the
sample midterm test session from 4:50pm to 6:00pm on Saturday, February
17. I will also be on Zoom to answer the questions. I will solve the
sample midterm problems during the review lecture of February 20. I
suggest that the students prepare themselves for the midterm before the
sample test and not look at the problems before the Zoom session.
- In addition to
the in-person office hours, there will be an additional online office
hour on Monday, February 19, from 10am to 12pm. The Zoom link for this
session will be provided before the session begins.
- I will have no office hours on
February 6, 2024. Instead, there will be office hours on Wednesday,
February 7, from 10:30am to 12:00pm.
- Homework #5 (and all future
assignments) must be uploaded to Moodle. No homework should be handed in
at tutorials.
- Midterm marks
- Students in Tutorial Section
UB (Wednesdays) can write Quiz #3 on Wednesday, March 20, in the first 15
minutes of tutorial.
- Please note that there are new
dates for Quiz 5 (April 8 and 10).
- The office hours on Tuesday,
April 2, will be from 10:00am to 11:00am only.
- ENCS-approved calculators are
permitted for Quiz #5 on April 8 and 10.
- There will be no class on
Thursday, April 11. There will be an online makeup class on Tuesday, April
16, from 1:15pm to 2:30pm. There will also be a review class on the same
day (April 16) from 4pm to 5pm. The Zoom link for both classes will be
provided on Moodle.
- For the final exam
students are permitted to bring in with them one 8.5*11-inch sheet of paper,
written on both sides. Anything may be written on this paper. Students
may photocopy things and tape/glue them to their crib sheet. However, the
taping/gluing must be on all 4 corners so that the attachment is not a
"flap" that can be lifted up and more written underneath. The
surface area available is only for the one 8.5*11-inch piece of paper. Only
ENCS-approved calculators are allowed.
- The final exam
will cover everything before and after the midterm (no particular
emphasis on any specific part of the course).
- Students
studying at the Gina Cody School of Engineering and Computer Science
(GCS) must use an approved calculator during final exams, and this
calculator must have a GCS sticker even if it is on the approved list.
- A sample final exam
along with the solution can be purchased from the copy center.
- The recorded Zoom presentation
for the last lecture is posted on Moodle. The review lecture will also be
posted soon.
- The last office hours before the final exam will be
online, on Monday, April 29, from 10am to 12pm. There will be no office
hours on Tuesday, April 30. The Zoom link is posted on Moodle.
