Project :

Design and Full Custom Implementation of

a)        4-bit unsigned number multiplier

Project_1 Description:

The goal is Full Custom implementation of a 4-bit  multiplier. The Inputs are two 4-bit numbers A & B. Output are 8-bit  R, results. You may use any form form and any logic style: static, dynamic, or any variation of these or within these families.

Performance Measure:

Use Area A, Time T, Power P, or AT2  as your circuit performance measure. Initially you have to specify what is you goal and what you are optimizing.

Testing: Choose an optimum test vector to test your design

Noise Margins: You are free to choose your logic swing. The noise margins should be at least be 10% of the voltage swing. Make sure you validate this for any gate design you undertake.

Rise and fall times: All input signals and clocks have rise and fall times of less than 500 psec. The rise and fall times of the output signals (10% to 90%) should not exceed 1.5 nsec.

Load capacitance: Each output bit of the circuit should have a 20 fF load.

Simulation:

Make sure you perform logic simulation, Circuit Simulation, and re_simulate your extracted circuit after circuit extraction:

Layout:

Layout two gates of your design fully (other gates may be obtained from library). Perform DRC. Extract your design and simulate it again and characterize your gates. Then you are allowed to use any library cell from CADENCE if you wish. You are to perform DRC on your final design, extract it and simulate it again to obtain your performance measures. Then you are to place and rout the complete chip including all I/O drivers and PADs. Give a complete specification for the circuit

Report:

The quality of your final project report is as important. It has to convey your specification, design philosophy and strategy and important decision steps. Describe your design and give final results in a specification format. Attach the results of your two design cells clearly with their characterization results.

Give only useful and meaningful diagrams where you have referred to them in the text. Show for your cells how you obtained specification. I have to be convinced that your design works. (**Do not just include diagrams which you do not refer to them in your report). Give your Design for Testability or your final testing method and result.

Organize your report according to the following: Abstract, Introduction, Report body (Description of the project at different abstraction levels), Simulation results, Conclusions and References

Finally I need a soft copy of you report (Report text and the two cells that you have designed)

A good report sells!!
