Routing in Ad-hoc Networks with QoS constraints

Mobile ad hoc networks (often referred to as MANET) consist of wireless hosts that communicate with each other in the absence of a fixed infrastructure. They are used in disaster relief, conference and battlefield environments, and are currently receiving a significant attention. A central challenge in the design of MANET is the development of routing protocols that can efficiently find routes between two communicating nodes. The routing protocol must be able to keep up with the high degree of mobility that often changes the network topology drastically and unpredictably.

The objective of the M.Sc thesis of R.Hamza is to define a list of best candidates that allows the partial flooding to have a success rate as close as possible to a pure flooding strategy, but requiring much less resources in the ad hoc network.

The next step will be to study the behavior of this partial flooding routing when QoS constraints (bandwidth and delay) are added.

Opnet Modeler is used for implementing, testing and comparing this routing protocol with others routing protocols for MANET.
