Optimization of Multimedia Networks

We are studying the optimization of several aspects of multimedia networks, assuming they have a radio and a core network component. We have developed a model in which we consider several classes of applications; various priority level for the users; grade of service which depend on the user priority, RAB in the radio network and  throughput in the core network, end-to-end delay requirements. Several research projects involving different students are currently developed:

  • design of new call admission control policies, and comparison of them on a simple network architecture (O. Troeung)
  • comparison of the WFQ scheduling policy with scheduling policies used in production (e.g. job-shop), design of new scheduling policies (N. Hail, Y. Kamoun, R. Touati, E.-F. Wu)
  • study of measurement-based call admission policies (S. Esposito).

 

Mathematical modeling of the dimensioning of 3G networks

It consists in the development of a mathematical programming model for the dimensioning of 3G networks, the design and the implementation of an optimization method to solve it, and its validation with the simulation tools developed in the first project. It involves two M.Sc. students (C. Voisin and R. Pooyania).
