Waking Up

Mersey River at Dawn

The Mersey River Chalets are perfect for those who want to escape from the world. In October, the mist rises off the river like cotton candy - it was actually enough to make this notoriously late riser get up with the sun.

Solitude

The River Walkway

With only six chalets and hundreds of acres of wilderness, you don't have to try very hard to hide.

Enough Said

Sunset on Mersey River

There are lots of sunsets like this in Nova Scotia. Still, most of us need an excuse like Mersey River to actually wait for one.

Water Works

Liscombe River

While Mersey River is a "no frills" back-to-nature retreat, Liscombe Lodge is for those who also like a little pampering. The grounds are lovely and the food is terrific.

So Much For Canoeing

Paddling on the Liscombe River

Since Amber is more of a kayaker, we compromised with a paddle boat. Not very fast but we certainly didn't miss anything.

As Good As It Looks

The Herbal Garden

Did I already say that the food is terrific? The herbal garden is at least part of the reason why.

Off To New Brunswick

Larson's Log Lodge

With just three amazing suites, Larson's is definitely one of the most romantic getaways in the Maritimes. The breakfasts in bed were fabulous and the jacuzzi was like a dream come true.

Back On The Water

Canoeing on the St. John River

To me, a Maritime vacation is wasted without at least one excursion on the water. On this trip, I managed to get Amber into a canoe.

Simplicity

Graves Island Provincial Park

We try to go camping at least once each summer. When we first started, we could throw everything into the hatchback and "hit the road". Since last year, we have resorted to a roof rack to house the things we can't possible squeeze into the car.

My Family

Amber and Boomer

This photo was taken at the edge of the park just as the sun was setting. In the background, you can just make out the Atlantic Ocean. And, yes, that is a purple jacket on Boomer.
