I have been a research scientist at Center for Signal Processing and Communications, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Concordia University since 2001. I investigated on signal processing, wireless communications, and softcomputing. During 2008, I spent six months with Signal Processing and Communications Lab, Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong, China, where I worked on cognitive radios.
From 2000 to 2001, I was appointed as an assistant computer officer (held a tilte of Project manager) with Microwave and Communications Laboratory at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), Hong Kong, via the Admission of
Talents Scheme of the Hong Kong Special Administration Region. We developed a prototype software radio/smart antenna system for 3G mobile communications, funded by a governmental technical transfer project.
From 1999 to 2000, I was an RF system engineer at Center for Mobile Communications, TDD R&D Division, China Academy of
Telecommunications Technology (CATT) Beijing, China. There, we worked with staff from Siemens on our joint project (the TD-SCDMA project), which was approved by ITU as a3G mobile communications standard.
From 1998 to 1999, I was a software engineer with Huawei Technologies, Division of Wireless Services, on development of DECT basestation. I
worked on lower-layer protocol stack programming and real-time operating systems.
I received a PhD degree in electrical engineering from Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) with a thesis on artificial intelligence and robotics in 1998.
I am a senior member of the IEEE. Currently, I am a member of editorial board of IET Signal Processing and is an associate editor of Circuits, Systems, & Signal Processing. I also served as a program committee member of ICONIP'09 and as a member of technical program committee of PIMRC'09. My current research interests are signal processing for wireless communications, Signal processing, wireless communication systems, neural networks, and computational intelligence.
Currently my areas of interest are
Signal processing for wireless communications (e.g. beamforming, direction-finding, multiuser detection, equalization, CDMA, OFDM, MIMO, UWB, cognitive radios, wireless sensor networks )
Wireless communication systems (e.g. 3G, 4G)
RF and microwave systems, antennas
Softcomputing including neural networks, evolutionary algorithms, fuzzy logics
Pattern Recognition (e.g. biometric recognition such as face or fingerprint recognition)
General signal processing (e.g. digital filtering, speech, image, and vedio coding)
