Details on the Paper Presentation

The purpose of the paper presentation is for you to read a scientific paper in NLP and explain it in class in a 10-12 minute presentation.

 

How do you choose the paper?

 

You can pick a paper from the list given on the Web page, or you can choose any paper you like.  If you pick your own paper:

 

1. The paper must be published in a respectable journal or be part of proceedings of a respectable conference in NLP.  Here are some examples of respectable sources:

·        Journals: Computational Linguistics, Machine Translation, …

·        Proceedings: ACL, COLING, NAACL, EACL, …

2. The paper must be approved by me.

 

How will you be evaluated?

 

You will be evaluated on:

 

  1. Your presentation (organization and content of the slides, time-management, …)
  2. Your understanding of the material and your explanation of it.
  3. Your answers to your classmate's (and my) questions.
  4. The pertinence of the questions you will ask to your fellow classmates during their own presentation; and your own comments on your classmates’ presentations.

 

Who will evaluate you?

  1. me

  2. your fellow classmates, by filling out this evaluation sheet.

 

What do you hand-in?

 

You hand-in:

 

1.      A photocopy of the paper and its full reference (proceedings, year, pages,…) at least 1 week in advance.

A copy of your slides the day of the presentation.
