39 (!) new pics from the MDBF were posted! Thanks to Norm for the pics! Since number of pics here is alredy so large, I decided to create a Photo Index to ease up pic lookups by the innocent site visitors.

A minor update includes a 72 dpi tarball of Sat's pics.

RACE WEEKEND EXTRAVAGANZA!!!...part 1

July 17, 2002

greetings everyone,

topics:
(1) RACE STRUCTURE
(2) 1ST RACE, PRELIMINARIES
(3) SEMI-FINALS (2ND RACE)/ FINALS (3RD RACE)

------------------------------------------------------
(1) RACE STRUCTURE:

Student Cup - 24 Teams, 3 races per crew

1st race for seeding into semi-final:
Top 12 times to semi final
All others to consolation semi final

2nd race (semi final):
There are 2 semi finals, the 1st and 2nd place of each
semi, + 2 fastest times advance to final A.
All others to final B

Same structure for consolation semi finals.

3rd race = Final

------------------------------------------------------
(2)1ST RACE, PRELIMINARIES:

SATURDAY, JULY 20, 2002; Olympic Basin

please be at the basin by:

         *** 7:45 am SHARP! ***

*** DO NOT BE LATE because our race can start earlier
    than the scheduled time ****

we are race# 8 and we go in lane 5...
we race between 8:15am and 9:00am

TO QUALIFY FOR THE SEMI-FINALS: we need to be in the
top 12.

IF WE FALL SHORT OF THAT, WE HAVE TO

*** RACE AS EARLY AS 7:30 AM!!! ***

IN THE CONSOLATION SEMI-FIANLS...which means we have
to be at the basin by *** 6:45 AM!!! ***

we don't want that do we??? ;)

WE HAVE TO GIVE IT ALL WE'VE GOT!!!! aim to be 1st
in our heat*! This means we have a chance of being
at most 10th place in the first race...this is
assuming that the top 3 in the other 3 heats get
a better time than us...that could be a possibility!!

* there are 4 heats in our category.

--------------------------------------------------------

(3) SEMI-FINALS (2ND RACE)/ FINALS (3RD RACE)

SUNDAY, JULY 21, 2002; Olympic Basin

time: TBA (we'll find out on saturday when we know
           our ranking)

semi-finals:
2 heats...the top 2 times in each heat (plus the 2
best times) will race in final A, the rest to final B
(same for consolation semi-finals -> consolation
finals)

finals:
- final A: determines the ranking for the top 6 teams
- final B: determines the ranking for 7th-12th place
- consolation finals A and B:
    ranking for 13th-24th place

--------------------------------------------------------

we will concentrate on 1 race at a time...for each
race our goal is to improve our times...

later,
theresa
