The Photonic Systems group conduct research in optical communications and photonics. Particular research areas include: radio over fiber systems, broadband optical sources, passive optical networks (PON), dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) systems, millimeter wave over fiber systems, quantum-dot semiconductor optical amplifiers and lasers, and ultra-wideband (UWB) wireless systems with fiber distribution. |

Dr. Xiupu Zhang (张秀甫) was born in Jiao-Nan, Shan-dong (山东胶南县), China, and received the BSc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. degree, all in Electrical Engineering, from Harbin Institute of Electrical Technology (now Harbin University of Science and Technology (哈尔滨理工大学), China, in 1983, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications(北京邮电大学), China, in 1988, and Technical University of Denmark(丹麦技术大学), Denmark, in 1996, respectively.
Following his Ph.D. study, he spent one and half years in Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden to conduct research on high speed soliton transmission. Prior to joining Concordia in 2002, he had conducted fiber fabrication, fiber cabling, system installation and the product developments of fiber amplifiers, long-haul and metro transmission systems/networks in industry in China, Canada and USA for about 10 years. He joined Concordia University as an associate professor in June 2002.
Since June 2009, he has become full professor at Concordia University. |
