Abstract:

The existence of thermal bridges in a building envelope leads to a higher risk of moisture surface condensation. Therefore it is important to characterise their thermal behaviour in order to choose the most suitable solutions.

To establish design criteria it is necessary to properly understand the phenomenon of thermal bridging and to know the predictable indoor and outdoor climatic conditions.

In this paper we will mention some possible ways of characterisation of thermal bridges and we will discuss the establishment of design criteria. Based on a methodology proposed by IRA - Annex 14, we will present an approach to this problem adequate to portuguese climatic conditions.
