Abstract:
Environmental quality is a key factor in determining whether a child survives the first years of life, and strongly influences the child's subsequent physical and mental development.

By illustrating the link between the environment and the well-being of our children, this joint UNEP, UNICEF and WHO report will raise awareness and deepen our understanding of environmental health issues. It provides an overview of key environmental health threats to children. The report concludes with a series of practical recommendations for action at the local, national, regional and international levels to stimulate discussion and intensify action in the field of children's environmental health.

Released in May 2002 for the UN Special Session on Children and the WSSD (World Summit on Sustainable Development), the full text of the study is now available on-line:
