Summary
The Report is the final result of a four year study by a group of about 30 experts in the field of performance-based building codes from all over the world, aimed at producing a practical approach to the development, implementation and application of performance-based building regulatory systems.
The Report includes:
. An analysis of building regulations in countries where the performance-based approach has been applied, (the UK, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and the USA) and the results of a detailed survey of building regulatory systems in general in these and other coun-tries.
. An analysis of the needs of building codes users, resulting in practical guidelines in the development and application of performance-based building codes.
. A practical framework to support the development of new performance-based codes and the analysis and conversion of existing codes.
. Advice for educational programmes to be set up in conjunction with the implementation of new performance-based building regulatory systems.
The Report can be used as a practical guideline both for building officials who are involved in setting up new building regulatory systems and for experts who are expected to give an input in the develop-ment of new building codes. |
