Abstract:
A model for freezing and melting processes in capillary-porous media involving coupled heat and mass transfer is proposed in this paper. The model is essentially different from the famous Harlan model, which is commonly used in freezing soil science. According to the established model a computer code has been developed. The present results, obtained from the numerical calculation for different building constructions subjected to steady and unsteady boundary conditions, show that the established model can be successfully applied to numerically simulate the coupled heat and mass transfer in capillary-porous materials during freezing and melting as well as under frost-free conditions.
