Prospective Students

I am always seeking self-motivated and rational students to join my team as PhDs, Masters, undergraduates, and interns. But how can you reach out to professors effectively? I receive numerous applications every day. Please read the following guidelines carefully to increase your chances of making a strong impression:

How to Write a CV

When preparing your CV, make sure to include the following essential information. This will save time during the application process, as you will be asked for these details anyway:

  • Research/Project Experiences (Publications)
  •  + This is the most critical section of your CV for me. If you are applying for a PhD position, a background in networks/systems is usually required.
+ Clearly outline your role in each research project or publication.
+ If you lack research experience, you can still apply, but you need to be exceptionally strong in other areas.
+ If you're interested in working with me but lack sufficient research experience, consider applying for a intern position.
  • GPA and Rankings
  •  + Your GPA and its ranking demonstrate your academic performance. It's acceptable if you are not at the top, but it should be reasonably good.
+ Different universities have varying GPA scales and distributions, so provide your ranking alongside your GPA.
  • Awards
  •  + List any significant awards, such as National Scholarships. Note that some universities have their own prestigious honors.
  • Referees
  •  + Include the names and contact information of your referees. Knowing who will write your recommendation letters is crucial.
  • Grades in Relevant Courses
  •  + Provide grades for your top courses and any network-related courses (e.g., Computer Networks). This will help demonstrate your strengths and relevance to the field.

Demonstrating Your Interest in My Work (For PhD Candidates)

If you are interested in pursuing a PhD under my supervision, please in your application email, propose a research problem you wish to work on. Your research question should address the following points:

+ Fit: Why do you think you are a good fit for my lab?
+ Motivation: Why is this problem important? Why should we focus on it?
+ Challenge: What makes this problem challenging? Why haven't other researchers solved it in the past several decades?
+ Timeliness: Why do you believe now is the right time to address this problem, and how do you plan to solve it?
