Information for Prospective Students

Thank you for your interest in joining my research group. I’m always happy to hear from highly motivated students who are passionate about advancing technology in meaningful and impactful ways.

PhD and Thesis-Based MSc Applicants

My group actively recruits PhD and thesis-track MSc students to conduct research at the intersection of networking systems, multimedia systems, and applied AI. We tackle real-world challenges while building robust, scalable, and intelligent systems.

If you are considering applying, I strongly encourage you to submit your application to the PhD in Computer Science or Master of Computer Science programs at Concordia. The university accepts applications for Fall, Winter, and Summer intakes. Full application details can be found here.

Students from under-represented backgrounds are particularly encouraged to apply.

If you’re a strong undergraduate student with exceptional academic achievements and/or published work, direct PhD admission may be possible. However, most BSc students should apply to the MSc program first. Fast-tracking from MSc to PhD is also an option for high-performing students.

You do not need my explicit permission to list me as a prospective supervisor in your application. Every faculty member reviews all submitted applications, and admission decisions are made by a graduate admissions committee.

If You’d Like to Reach Out Before Applying

While it is not necessary to email me before applying, you're welcome to do so if you'd like to share your interest. Please include the following in your message (PDF or URL preferred):

  • Your CV (You must check this: click here )
  • Transcripts from all universities you’ve attended (unofficial is fine)
  • A research statement summarizing your interests and background, including relevant courses, technical skills, or experiences
  • Start term you’re targeting (e.g., Fall 2025)
  • A motivation letter ( read this )
  • Up to 3 representative publications (if any)
  • English test scores (TOEFL, IELTS, etc.), if applicable

Use the subject line format:
Prospective [PhD or MSc] Student – [Your Name] – [Start Term]
Example: Prospective PhD Student – Jane Doe – Fall 2026

Please understand that due to the volume of inquiries, I may not be able to respond to all messages. However, if your background is a strong match for my group, I will follow up for a potential conversation or interview.

Already at Concordia?

If you're currently a student at Concordia, you do not need to change departments to work with me. For instance, students in the ECE department may stay registered there and still be supervised by me.

If you’re a course-based MSc student and wish to transition into a thesis-based track, please send me your CV and recent transcript. Having completed advanced courses (e.g., in systems, AI, ML, or networking) with strong performance will strengthen your case.

Opportunities for Concordia Undergraduates

There are several avenues for undergraduate students to engage in research, including:

If you’re a Concordia undergraduate interested in research, feel free to contact me with your CV and transcript. Note that space is limited, and I prioritize students interested in graduate-level research after their undergraduate studies.

Visiting Students or Scholars

While I cannot provide funding for visiting students, I’m open to hosting researchers with external funding. Please reach out if your interests align with my group’s focus and you’re planning a longer visit (ideally 3+ months).

Postdoctoral Applicants

Postdoctoral researchers with a strong publication record (e.g., papers at NSDI, INFOCOM, SIGCOMM, CoNext, MM, IEEE/ACM Transactions, etc.) are encouraged to reach out. You may consider applying for external fellowships like:

Looking forward to potentially working together!
