Research

My research focuses on sustainable infrastructure lifecycle management systems. These advanced information systems integrate a variety of methods and techniques to improve the services and performance of the infrastructures of our society (e.g., roads, bridges, buildings, etc.) within the limited available budget constraints. My research is broad and cross-disciplinary because the lifecycle of infrastructures goes through several stages (planning, design, construction, operation, inspection and monitoring, repair and maintenance, and finally demolition and recycling) that should be optimized in an integrated way. Furthermore, managing infrastructures in case of emergencies adds another challenging dimension to this research because different aspects of the operation and services of the infrastructures should be considered under severe constraints of limited time and resources. The investigated methods and techniques include spatio-temporal information modeling and analysis, simulation, visualization, optimization, wireless communications, sensing, auto-identification, and real-time location tracking.
