The recent surge of rich and premium content and the explosive growth of the number of end users demands that content delivery networks (CDNs) offer services with high scalability, flexibility, availability and variability in the quality of services. Unfortunately today’s content delivery networks (CDNs) are not able to meet these expectations.

However the emergence of recent technologies such as Cloud Computing, Network Functions Virtualization (NFV), Information-Centric Networking (ICN), and Software-Defined Networking (SDN) can potentially enable next generation CDNs to cope with these new demands.

This project has started in 2015. It investigates and evaluate the performance of architectures and algorithms for next generation CDNs. On the one hand we consider next generation CDNs that rely on a sole technology (cloud, NFV, SDN, ICN).  On the other hand next generation CDNs that use pertinent combinations of technologies (e.g. cloud + NFV) are investigated.
