Guidelines for prospective graduate students
Here are some notes for you if you are interested in pursuing a
graduate degree in Computer Science and Software Engineering at
Concordia. If you would like me to be work with you as a your
supervisor, please read the following notes before writing to me.
I am currently supervising a large number of graduate students, I cannot
take all the students who may want to work with me. Each time I accept a
new student, I have less time for: the students who are already working
with me, my family and for myself.
I will consider application from student who does not require financial support and meet most of the following:
- Have an undergraduate degree in Computer Science or be prepared to take a qualifying year in the diploma program in the department.
- Good communicator i.e., must be fluent (read, write and speak) at least one of the official languages of Canada: French or English.
- Good to excellent in academic background (i.e., >>A- or whose GPA is higher than 4.00)
- Must have a goal to finish the graduate work in the shortest possible
time. Masters in 18-24 months, PhD in 36-40 months.
- Not afraid to spend the time required to write and document decent code which works!
- REPEAT: Does not require financial support (this means must have funds to support all academic/living/medical/personal/travel expenses.)
If you feel that you meet the above criteria, please go ahead and
apply for admission to the department's graduate program. Contact the
graduate school or the graduate program secretary of the
department. Mention on your application that you want to work with me
and I will be given your file when it is complete. You may send me
a letter: tell me about yourself and what you want to do, and why
you want me to work with you. Please do not send me emails; send all
information by traditional mail. However include an email address,
just in case!
I will try to answer by email
message, but I can't guarantee to do so. If you do not receive a response, consider it as a 'No thanks!'
Suggestion: If you are trying to get into the Masters program, consider the application oriented option. Once you have finished the first term and established a good record at Concordia, you can approach me or one of the other faculty members to consider you for the thesis option.
I receive many
applications and I answer only those that I feel would meet my criteria.
Note: this email filter consider ALL email from "free" email suppliers as "spam"!
