    Building Codes Source List

    http://www.eren.doe.gov/consumerinfo/refbriefs/vd9.html

Building codes within the United States are available for purchase from the major building code organizations listed below. Each organization publishes revised code books every three years. Revisions to the latest code may be added as supplements to the code during intermediate years.

Since 1972, the Council of American Building Officials (CABO) served as the umbrella organization for BOCA, ICBO, and SBCCI (see below). In November 1997, it was agreed to incorporate CABO into the ICC, to provide a single, clear focused voice and would be a significantly more effective and efficient use of time, resources, and influence.

The International Code Council (ICC) (see below) was established in 1994 as a nonprofit organization dedicated to developing a single set of comprehensive and coordinated national codes without regional limitations. The ICC founders¡ªBOCA, ICBO, and SBCCI (see below)¡ªcreated the ICC in response to technical disparities among the three sets of model codes now in use in the U.S. The Secretariat responsibilities for the ICC rotate among SBCCI, BOCA, and ICBO, as does the address. Currently, SBCCI serves as the organization's Secretariat. As several of the code groups merge into the International Code Council (ICC), member code organizations may begin supporting ICC codes in lieu of updating their own. The ICC has developed a uniform, model International Residential Code, which covers one and two ¨Cfamily detached dwellings and apartment buildings up to three stories.

To determine the applicable building code(s) in your area, check with local building regulatory agencies.

Prices indicated here are for non-members; pricing for members is different. For most publications, additional charges may apply. Please check with the specific organization for availability, prices, and shipping and handling charges. This list was reviewed February 2001.
