The first large-scale installation dates back to 1967 when the city of Helsinki used airflow windows in its building department offices (Brandle and Boehm1982). With the energy crisis of 1973, the savings potential of these systems has resulted in many applications¡ªmostly in office buildings. The first airflow windows in the United States were installed in 1980 in an office building in Portland, Oregon (Ripatti 1984). "
