ABSTRACT

A new method for tracing microbiological problems in sick buildings is introduced. Markings from a mold/bacteria-dog, and degree of microbiological contamination in the building construction and symptoms reported by the occupants were analysed. There is a significant correlation between frequency of markings and growth of bacteria. The majority of the samples taken from the mineral wool in the outer wall, especially marked by the dog, had more than 10 times higher amount of bacteria than material in good condition and 1-10 times higher amount of molds. The activity and the amount of living bacteria is higher on the first floor compared to the second and third floor, and there are significant differences between the first and third floor for the variables connected to bacteria.
