Abstract: |
This paper focuses on the specific problems connected with the repair andrefurbishment of historic timber roof structures. Modern materials used to improvethe overall performance of the roof and to guarantee the durability of the work areanalysed, focusing in particular on waterproof membranes. Among these materialsone is examined in detail: the open roof lining Tyvek?1 vapour barrier, the propertiesand the behaviour of which are examined and compared with other coatings morecommonly used for this purpose. The paper concludes with the description of a casestudy of application, that is still in progress: the refurbishment of the roof of the 19 thCentury extension of the Valentino's Castle in Turin (Italy). |
