Abstract: |
Background
A Norwegian restriction on pressure treated wood bans the use of chromium and arsenic in all sawn treated timber, and will lead to a change from CCA-preservatives to copper containing or metal free types. To find the best protection for cladding and decking, we want to try out different surface treatments and in combination with preservatives.
Multi-storey wooden houses need wooden cladding that will require maintenance intervals of more than ten years, even on fire retardant cladding.
Goal
To find surface treatments or systems with maintenance intervals of at least 10 years for cladding, and systems of treatment or preservative for decking that will not turn grey in a few weeks. For decking the maintenance intervals may be from one to two years.
We want to keep the existing commodities for wooden products, but also try to increase the use of wood in outdoor construction in competition with other materials. |
