Abstract:
The paper presents the detailed description of Solar Calorimeter designed and fabricated at this Institute for measurement of thermal characteristics of glazing and shading materials. This has been used to evaluate the transmission and shade characteristics of different types of glasses, curtains, venetian blinds and external shading. The apparatus has also been found useful for the study of transmission properties of glazing material at different angles of incidence with given percentage of external shading. The solar heat transfer factor (KD-values) for different types of internal and external shading has been computed from the measured values of solar transmission properties of glass and shading materials, thermal conductance for a given percentage of external shading. Close agreement has been observed between the computed and measured values.
