Jet flows

Jet flows

Motivation
Jet flows are encountered in many environmental and engineering applications. Examples include heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems in residential and industrial buildings, mixing and energy dissipation in drainage systems and spillways, and cooling in manufacturing processes. These residential and industrial applications have a high demand for energy which contributes to high fuel consumption and the alarming global issues of greenhouse gas (GHG) emission and climate change.

Given the catastrophic impact of climate change on ecosystems, economies and communities, there is the need for more energy-efficient and sustainable systems in homes and industries. One of the important ways to achieve this goal is to research and develop innovative solutions to improve the mixing properties and energy-efficiency of turbulent jets used in residential and industrial applications. Such research efforts related to HVAC systems will also help improve indoor air quality (IAQ) and thermal comfort of occupants.
