The conference continues the tradition of the thirteen previous biennial meetings, alternating between North America and Europe. (1988), Giorgio Cini Foundation, Venice (1990), University of Colorado, Denver (1992), University of Heidelberg (1994), Mexican Institute of Water Technology, Cancun (1996), Institute of Chemical Engineering & High Temperatures, Crete (1998) and University of Calgary (2000).
