Computational Fluid Dynamics in Building Design

Syllabus:

This is a new graduate course that explores the fundamentals of indoor environment modeling with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). The course will present several important topics for application of CFD in building design. The topics will cover governing equations, wall effects, numerical methods, modeling of different airflows, and different turbulence models. In the second half of the course, the basic knowledge will be applied to typical CFD problems in building design such as room air distribution design, evaluation of indoor air quality and natural ventilation.

Teaching Goal:

Build necessary background for successful application of Computational Fluid Dynamics for airflow simulations in and around buildings.

Teaching Objectives:

Train students to perform, verify, validate and report CFD results.
