Abstract:
The papers included in this special issue were selected from among the 130 papers presented at the Americas Conference on Wind Engineering ~ACWE 2001!. The conference was held in June 2001 on the campus of Clemson University, in Clemson, S.C. Formerly known as the U.S. National Conference on Wind Engineering, this conference was renamed to reflect the desire for broader geographic participation than the past primary representation from the United States and Canada. Four planned regional conferences ~Americas, European-African, Asia-Pacific, and Eastern European! will now rotate with the International Conference of Wind Engineering. In order to attract a diverse range of interests to this conference, a technical program was developed which targeted a broad range of issues important not only to traditional wind engineers, but to social scientists, risk managers, emergency managers, meteorologists, architects, contractors, manufacturers, and building owners as well.
