Abstract:
A numerical method to determine the thermal conductivity of a homogeneous material from measured temperature profiles is presented. The problem is formulated as an optimization problem where the heat equation appears as a constraint. This optimization problem is solved with the Davidon-Fletcher Powell method and in each iteration the heat equation is solved by finite element techniques with the predictor-corrector method.
