Abstract:
This paper presents an evaluation of a modified cup test for determining the water vapour transmission properties of thick, permeable materials. Exterior Insulation Finish Systems (EIFS) lamina, were tested separately or together with a 25-mm thick layer of expanded polystyrene. Testing over one month period revealed that steady state conditions had not yet been established. It is evident that steady state methods, even in improved form such as this modified cup method, are not suitable for testing performance of the multi-layered systems with significant moisture capaci ty.
