Future Students

My research is mostly focused on three areas:

  • Virtual Reality,
  • Augmented Reality, and
  • Human-Computer Interaction.
  • If you want to apply for a MSc or a PhD degree at Concordia University, and choose me as your supervisor, please keep in my mind that I will proritize the students who wants to work on following research areas:

  • Design novel 3D UIs aiming to increase the motor performance of the trainees while interacting with virtual targets,
  • Elicit novel motor performance assessment criteria to analyze user performance and design feedback procedure, and
  • Design of intelligent avatars to provide asynchronous feedback.
  • You can also consider the following scientific contributions for your MSc/PhD thesis:

  • Designing novel 3D interaction methods within arms' reach,
  • Designing novel 3D interaction methods for distal interactions,
  • Design of novel assessment methods for VR/AR Training systems,
  • Optimization of novel motor performanc eassessment methods for training,
  • Intelligent avatar design methods, and
  • Using intelligent avatars in remote training.
  • Required Qualifications:
    1. Have a background in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field,
    2. Experience in developing applications/games with game engines, such as Unity or Unreal Engine,
    3. Excellent communication skills,
    4. English language proficiency,
    5. Ability to work as a part of a team.
    Preferred Qualifications:
    1. Experience with developing apps for VR/AR Head Mounted Displays (HMDs), such as Oculus Quest 2, HTC Vive Pro or HoloLens,
    2. Experiment design,
    3. Knowledge of computer graphics,
    4. Quantitative skills or interest in developing skills in data analysis for user studies,
    5. Significant scientific contributions and publications.

Financial support will be provided for qualified candidates.

If you are interested in working on these topics and write your thesis on VR/AR and HCI, send the following documents to this email address.

    Montreal and Concordia University

Montreal is the second most populated city in Canada. The city hosts events throughout the year in various venues such as Bell Center or Place des Arts. It is close to other key cities in Canada and USA, such as Ottawa (2 hours driving), Quebec City (2.5 hours driving), Boston (5 hours driving), Toronto (5.5 hours driving) and New York (6 hours driving). Montreal Trudeau International Airport has direct flights to more than 140 destinations. Montreal offers various attractions for local people, nature lovers who enjoy skiing, hiking or swimming, and sports enthusiasts. There are over 50 video game companies in Montreal, including Ubisoft, EA, Bethesda, Epic, Square Enix, Quantic Dream, Eidos, Warner Bros. Games and Gameloft. Similarly, there are dozens of companies focused on VR/AR application development, such as Lucid Reality Labs, Arcane Technologies, and Genius XR. It is possible to hear both English and French in the streets.

Concordia University is a young, English-speaking public research university. The Computer Science and Software Engineering (CSSE) Department is located in the ''Quartier Concordia'' neighborhood of Downtown Montreal. In terms of ranking, CSSE is ranked one of the top 10 CS departments in Canada. Regarding transportation, the downtown campus has direct connections to the metro via underground tunnels, bus stations, and bike stations. CSSE provides a multicultural and dynamic academic environment where students can flourish their skills.
