Title Capturing and Modeling Expert Human Operations in a Manufacturing Setting using Optical Tracking
Supervisor Amir G. Aghdam and Iraj Mantegh (NRC)
Description The objective of this project is to design and implement a piece of software that will store sampled data obtained from moving optical sensors and perform statistical analysis to generate a graphical model of the sensors movement. The sensors will be attached to a human body to trace its motions during a typical manufacturing activity (e.g. painting). Through several readings the movements will be traced and then a best fit model will be generated and visualized on the screen. A commercial optical tracking system and data acquisition software will be provided. The overall system will be used to record and model human operations during manufacturing processes and will have important application in control and automation of those processes. This project will be carried out at one of National Research Council Canada’s facilities in Montreal, Aerospace Manufacturing Technology Centre (http://iar-ira.nrc-cnrc.gc.ca/manuf_main_e.html), and access will be provided to the students for the term of the project.
Student Requirement Knowledge of modeling of physical systems and control (ELEC 371 and ELEC 372) can be very helpful for this project.
