Title Design and control of an integrated energy production system
Supervisor Dr. Pragasen Pillay
Description

The project is focused on studying of energy production (wind, solar and biomass) integrated in one system via a 48V DC Bus (Fig.1). In this system, the DC bus should have a stable voltage equals to 48V. The Ac voltage generated by the wind and biomass can be replaced (simulated) using an induction generator driven by a DC motor. We assume that the energies generated by wind, solar and biomass are respectively 30%, 20% and 50% of the total energy. The storage of the energy can be ensured using capacitors or by a storage battery and the load is a variable resistor. The generated energy should be consumed by the load. Excess energy must be fed to the battery. If the energy needed by the load is greater less than that produced by the generators, the battery must provide the excess energy. When the battery is full, the dump load circuit has to be closed. The automation of the system must be ensured by a digital controller which can be a u controller, a DSP or a Dspace. The principal tasks for this project are therefore: * Digital simulation of the whole system using Pspice (Matlab Simulink or PSIM) * Design of an AC/DC rectifier with a stable input voltage (waste energy) or with non fixed input voltage (wind energy) * Design of a DC/DC converter * Automation of the system (programming a digital controller) * Optimizing of the system
