Title Elderly Buddy
Supervisor Dr. William E. Lynch
Description The goal of the project is to design and build a system that assists elderly people in their everyday life. The features should include: - Reminder about important events, dates, appointments, time to take medication, etc. - Home/hospital/etc. locator with simple and clear step-by step routing instructions. - Smart health monitor and logger (body temperature, heart rate, etc.). Upload the logged data to a PC and send to the doctor. - Remote operation: 1. location of the person; 2. two-way communication; 3. reading his/her health parameters; 4. managing his/her "reminder" (view, add, edit, delete events). - Send instant alert to relatives (doctor) if: 1. the health status is off-norm; 2. accident (ex.: suspected fall) More functions could be added after consulting with the specialists in the aged care and safety. The using of gadget should be intuitive for a non-technical person, and require no or minimal training. Examples of use: - A person forgot the way home: "Guide-me-home" function. - A person has a doctor appointment. Reminder, that counts the travelling time and gives travelling instructions, if necessary. - A person has to take a medication: time and medication location reminder. - A person has a heart attack: emergency message to a caregiver, including the person's location. - A person falls: emergency message to a caregiver and two-way hands-free (for the person) communications. - A person leaves home at unusual time: reminder to the person, alert to the caregiver. - The caregiver can establish two-way communication with the person. - Logging and uploading to a PC health-related data, so the doctor can analyze the causes of health-related problems.
