Title Implementation of a Secure VOIP System
Supervisor Dr. Dongyu Qiu
Description Voice over IP (VoIP) is a fast emerging technology and is gaining a lot of attention recently. In VoIP systems, voice is transferred over data networks using the standard Internet protocol (IP). The biggest advantages of VoIP are high portability and low cost. But there are also some challenging problems. In this project, two problems will be addressed. First, students need to design and implement a general VoIP client, which should be able to run on different hardware platform, such as PC, smartphone or tablet. Secondly, students will also address the security issue in VoIP. Since voice is carried over IP traffic, the system could be vulnerable to attacks to general IP networks as well as possible attacks specially designed for VoIP systems.
Student Requirement Students should be familiar with network security, C/C++/Java, and Windows/Linux/Android Operating Systems. Experience on TCP/IP socket programming would be helpful.
Tools One Linux PC as server, two PCs, smartphones, or tablets as clients.
Number of Students 4-5
Students Mohammad Jaffal, Nirogini Vijayakanthan, Rasim Hafiz, Baltey Singh, Sarfraz Salik
