Title FARSHAPE: Fully Automated Robotic Swarm for the Hive Assembly of Printed Equipment
Supervisor Dr. Kash Khorasani
Description FARSHAPE stands for Fully Autonomous Robotic Swarm for the Hive Assembly of Printed Equipment. While the Farshape project envisages the production of robots able to accomplish the task of building structures on the moon, it would be unfeasible to accomplish this major task within our given resources, time, and skill-set. That said, this problem provides an interesting basis for a year-long capstone project: the production of a collaborative robotic swarm that can assemble a simple, miniature structure within a controlled terrestrial environment. This reduction in scope allows us to select the aspects of the project that are challenging, relevant to our education, and feasible. Furthermore, we are able to define a simpler project as a baseline to ensure feasibility, and add more elements of realism once the baseline has been accomplished.
