Title Gesture Controlled Robot
Supervisor Dr. Kash Khorasani
Description Motion controls can provide an intuitive way to control a device. The goal of this project is to develop a motion controlled robot using Microsoft Kinect. The designed robot will be human oriented (a bipedal walking robot with arms) and move according to specific gestures given by the Kinect operator. In the process of this project, concepts of electronics, software programming and control systems will be applied. The projects net system will consist of two major components: 1) PC mounted with Microsoft Kinect and 2) the Robot itself (plant). In this system, visual inputs are read by the Kinect and processed by a student designed program. Control actions from the PC based program are transmitted to the robot by wireless communication where they are executed. Control theory and feedback will be applied to stabilize robot movement.
Student Requirement Circuit design and testing skills. Knowledge of control theory and applications in stabilizing robot motion. Knowledge in C/C++, C# and/or MATLAB. Experience programming microcontrollers.
Tools Testing equipment: Oscilloscope, multi-meters, function generator, power supply, etc. Project Hardware: Microsoft Kinect for Windows, Robot frame and electronics. Software: Visual studio, MATLAB, and/or Atmel studio.
