Title |
Voice Controlled Shelving Unit Retriever Robot |
Supervisor |
Dr. Hassan Rivaz (Voice Recognition) Dr. Krzysztof Skonieczwy (Robotics) |
Description |
The goal of this project is to build a robot which will retrieve and put back boxes from a shelving unit. Human voices will control the robot. There are two main components. The voice recognition system will interpret the human voice and send a command to the robot. The robot system will receive a command as an input and execute it. The robot executes commands to either retrieve or return a box with a specific item from the shelving unit. The robot knows which items are in which boxes, so it can choose the correct box to retrieve, or where to return the current box. The robot moves the box to a predefined location within a short distance from the human who issues the command.
Possible extension: If all goes well, there are several other extension goals. The robot could move around a known path to retrieve or return boxes from further away. The robot can have a choice of several different shelving units. The robot could retrieve up to two items at a time.

Student Requirement |
Knowledge of electronics and robotics is required. Programming microcontrollers is necessary. Knowledge of digital signal processing to interpret the voice commands is important.
