Title Digital Video Broadcasting Using DVB and ATSC Standards
Supervisor Dr. Reza Soleymani
Description The goal of the project is for students to gain familiarity with the DVB and ATSC standards. In this project students implement a system receiving TV signals from Satellite in the format of DVB-S/S2 and transmitting it in the ATSC format. The project involves 1) study of the standards, 2) review of the background material on signal processing, communications and video compression techniques such as MPEG, 3) setting up a transmission system using off the shelf equipment, 4) writing the software to store the contents received from the satellite receiver for transmission over the air or show it on a screen using an APP, 5) demonstration.
Student Requirement 1) Familiarity with C or C++ programming language, 2) Familiarity with Linux and/or Windows operating system, 3) Should have taken at least one communication course, 4) It would be desirable that at least one of the team members have taken the digital signal processing course. 5) It would be desirable if at least one student is from COEN.
Tools For design: 1) A personal computer (PC) with a C compiler on it. For demonstration: 1) Satellite TV receiver with IP output, 2) A modulator, 3) A handheld device (e.g., a cellular phone or Tablet) that can receive and play ATSC.
