Title |
ELEC 273 laboratory printer switch |
Supervisor |
D. Qiu |
Description |
ELEC273/275 heavily rely on a laser printer to print their oscillograms. Current setup connects 10 oscilloscopes to one printer via serial interface (RS-232). The printer in the lab is quite old and needs to be replaced. Nowadays, printers with serial interface are difficult to find; printers with USB interface are the most common. Printers with other interfaces (e.g. Ethernet) can be considered as well.
Students will design and implement a switch that takes serial (RS-232) inputs from the oscilloscopes and interfaces them with a new printer (USB).
Additional features:
- the system should allow for remote monitoring and error reporting;
- print on the oscillogram:
o the date and time of the screenshot;
o students’ section and names.
- Other features to be discussed with the lab coordinator.
