Title Remote Patient Monitoring and Hospital Management System
Supervisor B. Goodarzi
Description This capstone project explores a critical problem in the healthcare sector with far-reaching effects on both patients and healthcare professionals. The goal is to find a solution to the issue of the excessive workload faced by healthcare professionals, including both those in charge of staff management and those directly involved in patient care. Many hospitals in Montreal nearly always exceed their patient capacity, nurses are obligated to do overtime, and patients feel let down by the healthcare system. Furthermore, because staff management forces nurses to work overtime, many nurses are leaving the nursing industry as the job is taking a toll on their mental health.

In this project, the primary goal is to address this challenge by developing a comprehensive solution that incorporates necessary hardware and software components to meet the specific needs of healthcare workers, management staff and patients. It is important to research and ask healthcare workers, management staff, and patients what they would like the solution to have, so that it sufficiently tackles this problem.

The vital data environment of the product would be as follows: a custom PCB would be designed in the aim to collect various vital markers such as heart rate, blood pressure, temperature, etc. in a minimally invasive form factor, worn on the limbs of the patient. This data would be continuously sent to a mobile application, where nurses could monitor patient vitals on-the-go with varying levels of granularity (individual patient, group view of a shared room).

The management environment of the product would be as follows: through a web app, management personnel would connect to the same database as the mobile app, which would allow them to see which rooms are available or should soon be available based on the patient(s) diagnosis using AI models and previous recorded cases.
