Title | Electronic Safety Equipment for Bikes
Supervisor | S. Hashtrudi Zad
Description | The 2021 Census of Population in Canada showed that nearly 139,000 commuted to work on bicycle. Collision between a bicycle and a motor vehicle could have serious consequences for the bike rider. Three quarters of such deadly collisions occur in urban areas and mostly during the months of summer. Two main causes of these accidents are i) the vehicle driver does not see the cyclist and ii) the cyclist fails to see the motor vehicle.
The objective of this project is to design and build an electronic equipment for city bikes that i) improves the situational awareness of the bike rider, ii) generates suitable signals to alert the rider and the nearby vehicles in cases of an impending accident. The equipment should be installed on bike, designed for urban areas, work in the temperature range of 10 to 40 degrees. Furthermore, it should be able to function as a stand-alone device or in connection with a smart phone. |
