Title Key Fob Sensor and Application
Supervisor O. Ait Mohamed
Description To accommodate a hybrid working schedule, workstations have been set up in the office that is referred to as “hot desking stations”. These workstations have no long-term designation to a specific individual and are meant to be shared by many different workers. They are equipped with docking stations, 2 monitors, a wired mouse, and a wired keyboard. These stations are manned on a “first come, first served” basis. As such, workers cannot “book” them ahead of time. This has been causing issues for the IT and the HR departments, as people have been complaining of various issues this arrangement has caused. Along with the desk issue, there have been some security measures that are being taken throughout the building. For this purpose, employees have been provided with key fobs that are needed to access different parts of the building. Depending on the user’s access, they will have the ability to go to different sections of the building with that key fob. Along with accesses, those key fobs are used to book the employee meal plan from another website, which some users have been having issues accessing. This project aims to develop an integrated solution to the above problems.
Student Requirement - A solid background in electronics and experience with programming microcontrollers. - Knowledge of RFID technology and proficiency in integrating sensors with various systems. - Familiarity with mobile development and database management. - Experience in project management and the ability to work effectively in a team setting. - Skills in testing methodologies and quality assurance. - Understanding of user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) design principles for developing user-friendly applications. - Basic skills in data analysis to interpret data collected from sensors and optimize system performance. - Knowledge of software documentation practices to ensure clear and comprehensive user manuals and technical documentation.
Tools 1. Test Equipment: RFID key fobs, testing devices, and hot desking workstations equipped with docking stations, monitors, wired mice, and keyboards. 2. Software Tools: Development environments such as Visual Studio or IntelliJ, mobile development frameworks (e.g., Flutter, React Native), and database management systems (e.g., MySQL, SQLite). 3. Design Tools: Software for mobile UI/UX design (e.g., Figma, Adobe XD) to create wireframes, prototypes, and user interface elements. 4. Hardware Resources: Pre-built sensors, off-the-shelf microcontrollers (e.g., Arduino, Raspberry Pi), and components necessary for power management and data storage (e.g., SD card modules, battery packs).
