Title Autonomous Personal Service Robot
Supervisor Dr. N. Kharma
Description The project will be to construct an autonomous networked personal service robot that is capable of navigating through houses, offices, hospitals and nursing homes. The intent is for a low cost, mobile, long lasting, low maintenance and reliable machine that can provide services to people such as hospital patients or family members. The robot will operate without human intervention but will require human assistance to indicate which target to go to and to set a predefined schedule so the robot can route it. The robot will have a suitable form factor that it can pass through open doors and hallways while avoiding dynamic objects and manoeuvre through a floor plan. The robot must be able to carry and provide resources such as food, water, medication and clothes. The robot will also be capable of operating as a scheduler, reminding people to take their medication or attend their meetings. The robotic platform shall be executed on an embedded system that operates on an innovative robotic platform designed specifically to operate in offices and hospitals. The robot will be capable of autonomous navigation and map its surroundings with the use of various sensors and localization algorithms. With its network capabilities, the robot should provide a telepresence ability in which family members, businessmen, nurses and doctors can remotely operate the robot.
