Title Autonomous Unmanned Airship (AUA)
Supervisor Dr. Samar Abdi
Description The Autonomous Unmanned Airship is a floating vehicle that can autonomously survey a large indoor environment such as airports, malls and stadiums. Telemetry is sent back to a base station for processing and analysis. In addition, the vehicle may be used as a mobile surveillance platform. Although the system can navigate autonomously, manual override is possible at any time for finer control of the device. The objective of this project is to design the control system, autonomous navigation and communication systems of this airship. The base station (PC, laptop or smartphone) will handle image processing and data recording. Although the project we are proposing is strictly for indoor use, a future design would involve building an airship capable of executing the same set of tasks outdoors using GPS for navigation. A potential use case could be to locate people in the aftermath of a natural disaster.
