Title Design of the Attitude Determination and Control Subsystem of a Spacecraft
Supervisor Dr. Shahin Hashtrudi Zad
Description Spacecraft "attitude" refers to the angular orientation of the vehicle. The "attitude determination and control subsystem" (ADCS) of a spacecraft stabilizes the spacecraft, and points it in desired directions. In this project, an ADCS is designed and then tested using computer simulation in the MATLAB/Simulink environment. The students will be given a spec sheet for a satellite containing general information such as mass, dimensions and orbit characteristics. Then based on the specifications, they will proceed to choose a control method (from the variety available for attitude control of spacecraft), and then to hardware (sensors and actuators) sizing and selection. Next suitable controllers will be designed and tested using MATLAB and Simulink. In this project, the students will learn about many important aspects of control system design, in particular, about control systems used in space vehicles.
