Title Smart Green Electric Vehicle
Supervisor Dr. Rabin Raut
Description The goals of this project include modeling, design, and control of a hybrid energy storage system (ESS) for a remote controlled smart green electric vehicle. The designed electric vehicle energy storage system will consist of power dense capacitors and energy dense lithium-ion batteries. The challenge is to design and test the control algorithm for energy sharing between the hybrid energy sources. The capacitor must be called upon during steep acceleration and deceleration, while the battery pack must be called upon during modest acceleration, deceleration, and cruising. The charging of the electric vehicle storage system will be achieved using a suitably sized photovoltaic (PV) panel. Thus, the project will demonstrate a totally green and energy efficient supply. The novelty of this project is to efficiently manage the power sharing capability between the hybrid energy storage devices by smartly designing, implementing, and testing an FPGA-based real-time control algorithm.
