Title Smart Paddling
Supervisor Dr. G. Cowan
Description Dragon Boat is still a modern sport that does not have many technologies to perform research on the technique of an athlete on a boat. This project is given by a client who is currently a coach for Dragon Boat Team Canada which will require data of a Paddler to be collected using a system that will detect paddle relative to the body motion. The system should be able to collect the amount of power generated from the athlete, the direction of the paddle and the body position of the athlete. By collecting the data from the system, the coaches will be able to know if an athlete has a good technique and the athlete will be able to understand their technique. Since this project will be done during the off season (Winter), the data collected will be from a paddle ergometer and a paddling tank which will allow water simulation. The data will be displayed in an software application that will display graphically and numerically to the user.
