Title Smart Front Door with Expandable Platform
Supervisor Rodolfo Coutinho
Description The aim of this project is to develop an IoT device in the form of a smart door that will include functionalities controlled and monitored through a mobile application. These functionalities include a smart lock, which can be locked/unlocked from the mobile interface while still preserving the functionality of a regular lock; a camera that will allow the user to view any activities and people at their front door and a door bell that will notify the home owner of the presence of a visitor. All features will be enabled and powered through the use of a board where the different hardware modules will be connected and where a wifi module will allow the communications for the IoT capabilities. The realisation of this project will include hardware, electrical and software components that satisfy the multidisciplinary aspect of the project. Required activities during the project’s development phase may include soldering, connecting components, developing the power source, which may require oscilloscopes, multimeters and power supplies, and developing the necessary embedded software to interact with each other along with the mobile application used to control said IoT devices. The project will also include an expandable IoT platform. The prototype will use a general board which will be modular and could be further integrated in future IoT devices if desired. This means that components can be added, mapped and used through the application as part of its ecosystem.
