Title Intersection Side-impact Collision Alert System
Supervisor S. Hashtrudi Zad
Description About half of the collisions in urban areas and 30% of collisions in rural areas are intersection collisions. The purpose of this project is to build a system that monitors the traffic in a signalized intersection, and in case there is a possibility of side-impact collision (e.g. red light violation), issues a warning/alert to all vehicles involved (including vehicles entering the intersection from other roads). - The system has access to traffic signal phase and timing. - The system should be able to monitor all types of vehicles and therefore should not rely on vehicles for providing their position and speed information, i.e., no vehicle to infrastructure (V2I) communications is assumed for monitoring. The deliverables are the monitoring system and receivers for vehicles.
Requirement Power Electronics, Hardware (microprocessors and peripherals), Digital Signal Processing
Tools Sensors (to be determined), hardware components for processing and communications.
